This course introduces the core concepts of working with sound, including recording, playback, and basic system operation across a range of practical scenarios. You’ll explore how audio is used in performances, productions, and learning environments, developing confidence with the tools and workflows involved. Along the way, you’ll gain practical strategies to manage audio effectively in the classroom and support a wide range of student activities.

How You’ll Learn
- Interactive lessons, video based resources
- Guided practice across a range of real world audio scenarios
- Developing skills in setting up, capturing, and managing sound for different uses
Assessment Tasks
- Apply audio skills and knowledge in 3 genuine industry style tasks:
- Provide videos and photos of you operating a PA system for a live performance, which must include a minimum of 3 inpts and 1 send of foldback
- Field recording to create a high-quality ambient soundscape of your own design
- Timed execution of an audio cue sheet for a live radio play, including music, sound effects and dialogue (in Soundtrap or your chosen DAW)
- Complete project documentation as required
- Complete quizzes to demonstrate your understanding
Duration
Depending on your level of existing skills and knowledge, we recommend that you allow 25 – 30 hours to complete this course. The course must be completed within 5 months of the enrolment date.

- Apply fundamental audio skills across performance, recording, and playback situations
- Confidently operate basic audio equipment and systems
- Support classroom and performance activities using practical audio workflows
